Information About Anti Freeze
Our Antifreeze is supplied in a ready-to-use format or as a concentrate. Our read-to-use Antifreeze gives protection down to minus 38 degrees Centigrade, when used neat. Antifreeze is widely used in the automotive industry, particularly in car radiators, to help to protect engines and vehicle components from the potentially damaging effects of freezing temperatures. Antifreeze works by lowering the freezing temperature of a liquid so that when the outside temp drops below zero, the water that would normally freeze in a pipe is prevented from doing so. This is because Antifreeze has a freezing temperature lower than the freezing temperature of water.
Our Antifreeze is made by carefully combining Monoethylene Glycol with various additives to help protect the metal surface of the components and pipes in a vehicle’s engine. These additives are known as ‘anti corrosion inhibitors’ and help to prevent corrosive damage to pipework. Antifreeze also often contains certain dyes and colorants according to the manufacturer. Antifreeze generally has the appearance of coloured liquid.
The word Antifreeze is sometimes written as Anti-freeze or Anti Freeze, but all spellings refer to the same material. Anti-freeze is classified as Harmful if swallowed and is Irritant to the eyes. Operators must not drink or eat when working with or handling Anti freeze. Full PPE (Personal Protective Clothing) must be worn when working with Antifreeze. This will include protective clothing in the form of coveralls or overalls, appropriate protective gloves (check with the glove manufacturer if you are uncertain), approved safety glasses or safety goggles to afford suitable eye protection and protective footwear in the form of safety shoes or safety boots. Anti freeze does not come under ADR Regulations for transporting hazardous products.
Anti freeze has a sweet taste which is believed to have the potential to contribute to accidental damage. Anti-freeze must be kept out of the reach of children and animals. Antifreeze is Toxic to many animals, including cats and dogs and care must be taken to ensure that open containers are not left where a child or animal could have access to it. Waste Antifreeze must be disposed of safely and should be recycled where possible. Waste Anti-freeze should not be poured to drain.
