There are a number of other names for EDTA including Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid, Diaminoethanetetra-acetic Diammonium Salt and EDTA Diammonium Salt.  ReAgent can provide different solid chemicals also.

EDTA is used for a wide range of applications including for the production of buffer solutions, standard solutions, cleaning solutions, etching solutions, as an additive, an antiseptic, in water testing and as a curing agent. EDTA, which is sometimes referred to as tetra sodium edta, can dissolve a lot of metals. The amount of metal dissolved depends on the strength of the EDTA solution you are using, so you can infer from the strength of the EDTA solution how much metal you had to begin with. In a pure form, it is classed as hazardous (irritant). However, more dilute solutions are not so hazardous, which is one of the most appealing qualities of the substance – in a solution it can dissolve metal, yet it is relatively non-hazardous and easy to handle compared to other substances which dissolve metals, like strong acids, for example. It is still important to handle the substance properly, using all relevant PPE and consulting the Material Safety Data Sheet.
