Synonyms of Formaldehyde include H2CO, CH2O, methyl aldehyde, methylene oxide and formic aldehyde.

ReAgent can supply Formaldehyde solutions in strengths and pack sizes specified by the customer. Our most common units of sale are 2.5L and 25L of 37-40%, for which we regularly maintain stock levels. Whenever possible we dispatch products via 24 hour couriers, or locally via our own delivery vehicles.  This is a weaker product and is used in specialist applications, such as storing and preserving tissue samples in Histology departments and hospitals.

At room temperature, formaldehyde is a gas; however it can be contained in a solution in concentrations up to 37-40%. It is stabilised with around 4% methanol. More dilute solutions are available, including 10% solution which is commonly used by hospitals. Applications for formaldehyde include preserving human tissue, such as preserving samples or embalming and for manufacturing glues and polymers. It is also widely used in laboratories for general analysis and testing. Formaldehyde is potentially hazardous, classified as an S1 Poison. It should only be handled in well ventilated areas, ideally with some form of fume extraction. This is especially true when being handled on an industrial scale. For individuals who are exposed to Formaldehyde on a regular basis, exposure levels should be monitored accordingly. Always consult the Material Safety Data Sheet and wear all relevant Personal Protective Equipment.
