Sodium Hydroxide might also be referred to as Caustic, Caustic Soda, NaOH, Sodium Hydroxide Pellets and Sodium Hydroxide Pearl. Sodium Hydroxide is a strong alkaline, so it is frequently used as a neutraliser for purposes like treatment of waste water. It is also used as a cleaning agent, when it is sometimes mixed with other chemicals such as EDTA. In such mixtures, EDTA might be used for removing metallic impurities whilst Sodium Hydroxide might be present to dissolve fats. It is commonly used to clean lines after manufacturing runs by pharmaceutical companies. NaOH is also present in many cleaning products including drain un-blocker, floor cleaner and oven cleaner, primarily due to the ability to dissolve fats. Trace amounts can also be found in household toothpaste.
