In its most hydrated form, copper sulphate appears as bright blue crystals. It is produced by treating copper metal with sulphuric acid and is most commonly found as a pentahydrate salt.

Copper sulphate is classed as an irritant and may cause itching or eczema to individuals. If consumed, this compound may result in copper sulphate poisoning. This could lead to permanent brain damage.
