Uses of Distilled Water
Distilled water is a form of purified water that is used in a wide range of applications. Its high purity makes it ideal for use in industrial and laboratory environments for cleaning, rinsing and testing. Distilled water is also commonly used in irons, the manufacture of automotive batteries and in laser cutting.
Although you can drink certain types of distilled water, its lack of minerals has a negative impact on taste and yields no real health benefits. At ReAgent, our distilled water is extremely high purity and is NOT suitable for consumption.
Another type of water used in laboratory environments is deionised water. Deionised water is less expensive than distilled water and is often used to top up lead acid batteries in the automotive industry. This is due to trace elements in tap water having a reductive impact on the life span of a truck or car battery.
How We Make Distilled Water
Distilled water is made from the distillates of evaporated water. During this distillation process, almost all of the impurities are removed, leaving a clear, colourless liquid with a neutral pH and low conductivity. For
Though very similar, deionised water may still contain some impurities. This is why distilled water is the purest option. Distillation can be a slow process and a still is needed for production to take place.
Buy Distilled Water from Trusted UK Suppliers
Distilled water can be purchased here at ReAgent in containers up to 1000 litres, including 5 and 25L options. We also offer attractive discounts for bulk orders. The product is delivered in plastic packaging, with optional taps for 25L containers for easy decanting. As distilled water is a non-hazardous material, we are easily able to deliver UK-wide or abroad.
You should store your distilled water in a sealed container between 15 – 25°C, away from sunlight and moisture. Avoid exposure to excessive heat and cold. Once distiller water is exposed to the air, it will pick up trace elements in the atmosphere which will affect the conductivity, particularly carbon dioxide. Please consult this product’s MSDS for details.
