The air we breathe, for example, is a gas-gas solution composed of oxygen and nitrogen, as well as trace amounts of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and neon. Meanwhile, a solid solution involves the mixture of elements at an atomic level, such as with steel, which is the result of the combining of carbon in iron.
