Promethean Particles is a developer and manufacturer of a class of compounds called metal organic frameworks, or MOFs, which are energy-efficient sorbent nanomaterials with extremely high surface areas.
This lets them absorb gases like carbon dioxide efficiently, meaning they are gaining attention for their potential in applications such as carbon capture, gas separation, and energy storage.
We spoke to Selina Ambrose, Promethean Particles’ Product Manager, who explains how ReAgent has become their trusted partner and is now integral to their chemical supply chain.
Business Objectives
As a relatively small company with growing needs and growing customer demand, Promethean needed to serve their customers with raw materials in a liquid solution.
On a small scale, they could dissolve powder into liquid at their site. However, when orders reached hundreds of kilograms or more, this approach became impractical.
Recognising the need for a reliable partner who could support them through every stage of growth, Promethean began searching for UK suppliers capable of scaling with them. They needed more than just a one-off delivery: They needed, as Selina puts it, “not just deliver a one-off, but be able to deliver reproducibly and consistently.”

ReAgent had previously worked with Promethean, sourcing some other raw materials in powder form, but at a small scale or smaller scale, for their R&D activities:
“We had very good customer service from ReAgent for the smaller scale quantities of chemicals that we saw previously. And so, we started looking at ReAgent’s broader capabilities, including larger volume supply of chemicals.”
Because of the emerging nature of Promethean’s technology and the market they work in, they needed a lot of cost indication, over a period of time, and for different volumes.
“There was a lot of interaction with the sales team at ReAgent. We always got very prompt responses, very helpful responses, so that was a very big benefit. Sourcing that ready-made solution from ReAgent meant that our operators could be doing something else a bit more productive. And therefore those are indirectly saved cost.”
The Results
As Promethean’s UK-based contract manufacturer and supplier, ReAgent ensures that Promethean can deliver products to their customers on time and to meet their exact needs.
Selina says that Promethean’s customers have been very satisfied with what has been delivered so far, which has opened the door to new opportunities:
“That has led to ongoing collaborations with them and ongoing demand for our MOF materials.”
