What Are ISO Tanks?

Think of an ISO tank as an insulated heavy-duty container. These large stainless steel vessels are built inside a frame that’s sized to international standards. ISO tanks are ideal for storing and transporting bulk liquids, gases, and powders safely and efficiently.

For this project, we installed two 25,000-litre ISO storage tanks alongside a dedicated 25,000-litre ISO delivery tanker. This setup allows us to seamlessly manage high-volume raw material while maintaining product integrity throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

Behind the Scenes of Our New Installation

Designing a new contract manufacturing process means getting every stage of that process to work in harmony.

Here’s how this new installation functions, from raw material arrival to product delivery:

  • Raw material intake and viscosity control – Raw material arrives at our facility via road tanker and is pumped directly into one of our 25,000-litre ISO tanks. The tank is heated to maintain a low viscosity, which ensures the raw material remains easily pumpable.
  • Precise dosing – Some of the raw material is pumped into a 15,000-litre stainless steel mixing vessel. This vessel is mounted on load cells, ensuring accurate weight measurements and precise batch dosing.
  • High-shear mixing – Powdered components are added using an inline high-shear mixing system. Our in-house water plant supplies deionised water, which is added to ensure consistent blending.
  • Chemical blending – The entire formulation is thoroughly blended to create the finished product.

Lab-Tested and Prepped for Delivery

This process relies on comprehensive quality control. Once blending is complete, the team in our in-house laboratory runs rigorous checks on everything from pH and density to solids and acid content. After approval, the finished product is pumped into the ISO storage tank where it’s held until collection.

When it’s time for delivery, the product is pumped into an insulated, trailer-mounted ISO road tanker. Maintaining a temperature below 40°C during transit preserves the product’s chemical stability and extends its shelf life. This guarantees our customer receives a formulation that meets their exact specifications every time.
